Montjuïc Cemetery
The Montjuïc Cemetery was inaugurated in 1883 by the mayor of Barcelona, Francesc de Paula Rius i Taulet. The cemetery project was part of the program of improvements that this mayor undertook to enlarge the city, which led to the Universal Exhibition of 1888. It has more than 151,000 graves distributed over a total area of 567,934m2.
In the Montjuïc Cemetery there is the Fossar de la Pedrera, a space intended for collective memory and where President Lluís Companys rests.
It will be closed on Saturdays and Sundays in summer.
